Privacy at a Glance
- No data collection: Lull does not collect, store, or track any of your personal information
- No analytics or tracking: There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services in the app
- Your Plex, your server: Lull talks only to Plex's sign-in service and to your own Plex server to stream your own audiobooks
- Everything stays on your device: Your Plex connection details, listening progress, and settings are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad
- No accounts with us: There is no Lull account, sign-up, or password — you sign in to your own Plex account, not to us
Our Commitment to Your Privacy
Lull is an iOS audiobook player that streams from your own Plex media server, with a sleep timer that fades your book out and hands off to soothing sleep sounds. It is built so that your listening stays entirely between your device and your own Plex server. We (the developer) never see your library or your activity.
What Information We DON'T Collect
We do not collect, transmit to ourselves, or have access to:
- Your audiobooks, library contents, or what you listen to
- Your listening progress or history
- Your Plex account credentials or authentication token
- Personal information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
- Usage analytics or statistics
- Advertising identifiers or location data
Lull does not track you across other apps or websites, and it contains no advertising.
How Lull Connects to Plex
Lull plays the audiobooks in your own Plex library. To make that work, the app communicates with two things, and nothing else:
- Plex's sign-in service (plex.tv): When you choose "Sign in with Plex," the app opens Plex in Safari so you can authorize Lull, then retrieves an authentication token and the list of servers on your Plex account. This exchange is between you and Plex — your use of Plex is governed by Plex's own privacy policy.
- Your Plex Media Server: Once connected, the app streams audiobook audio and artwork directly from your server and syncs your playback position back to it. This traffic goes between your device and your server.
We do not operate any servers of our own, and your library and listening data never pass through us.
How Your Data is Stored
Everything Lull needs is stored locally on your device using Apple's standard on-device storage. This includes:
- Your Plex server address and authentication token (used to reach your server)
- A randomly generated client identifier for the Plex connection
- Your playback progress and the last book you were listening to
- Your app preferences (sleep timer length, sound choices, and similar settings)
This information stays on your device and is protected by iOS's built-in security and your device passcode or Face ID/Touch ID. You can remove all of it at any time by deleting the app.
Sleep Sounds
The sleep sounds that play after your book fades out are either bundled with the app or generated on your device. They do not involve any network connection or data collection.
Tip Jar (Optional In-App Purchases)
Lull is free. The app includes an optional "Tip Jar" with small one-time purchases for users who would like to support its development. These purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; Lull never sees or stores your payment information. Any data related to a purchase is handled under Apple's privacy policy. Tipping is completely optional and the app works fully without it.
Third-Party Services
Other than connecting to Plex (as described above) and Apple's in-app purchase system for the optional Tip Jar, Lull does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Children's Privacy
Lull does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children. There is no data from children that could be collected or stored.
Data Security
Your information is protected by multiple layers of security:
- Your device passcode or biometric authentication (Face ID/Touch ID)
- iOS's built-in encryption and security measures
- The security of your own Plex account and server
Your Rights & Choices
Because Lull stores everything on your device and we hold none of your data, you remain in complete control:
- Delete the app to remove all locally stored data, including your Plex connection details and listening progress
- Sign out of Plex within the app to remove your stored Plex token
- Manage your Plex account, servers, and shared access directly through Plex
Changes to This Privacy Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Any changes will be posted here and, if significant, may be communicated through an in-app notice.
